Junior Sports Day
On Friday, June 13th, our Junior Infants to Second class students enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day filled with fun, games, and laughter. The event featured a variety of exciting activities, ensuring that every child was included and had a chance to shine. The highlight of the afternoon was a visit from the ice cream van – a refreshing treat that brought big smiles all around! A special thank you to Kilmaine Bingo for organizing this lovely surprise. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather, which added to the joyful atmosphere around the school. It truly was a memorable day for everyone involved!

Junior Tour
The boys and girls from Infants to Second class had a most adventurous day at Westport House on Friday 6th June. They slid and bounced, whizzed and climbed through a fun filled day. After a fine feed of yummy pizza and goujons followed by a delicious doughnut, tired kids boarded the bus back to school.

First Holy Communion
Children from Second Class received the sacrament of First Holy Communion in St. Patrick’s Church on May 17th. They had been busily preparing both at home and in school. They also completed the ‘Do This in Memory of Me’ programme which further connected their homes and the parish. All the children were wonderful on the day with everyone getting to take an active role in the liturgy by singing, by bringing up the offertory gifts and by reading. Many thanks to our Kilmaine Parish Choir and to our servers from 6th Class for their help on the day. Míle buíochas especially to Fr. Denis Carney for all his support to the children on their First Holy Communion journey again this year.

5th & 6th Class School Tour
On Thursday June 5th, our 5th and 6th class pupils set off on their school tour — and what a fantastic adventure it turned out to be! Our first stop was Ballymorris Pottery, where students got hands-on with clay and discovered the art of pottery-making. Guided by skilled artists, the children learned new techniques, shaped their own unique creations, and truly got a feel for the craft. There was a wonderful mix of creativity and concentration as everyone formed their pottery pieces — memories (and pots!) that will last a lifetime.
Next, we headed to the Shannon Aviation Museum, where the excitement truly took off! Pupils had the chance to explore real aircraft up close, board planes and see how the cockpit works, watch a real safety vest inflate (a big hit with everyone!), and best of all — fly their very own planes in the flight simulator!
It was a thrilling experience, offering a unique look into the world of aviation. Future pilots may have just been inspired!
After a busy day of learning and exploring, we wrapped things up with a well-earned stop at Supermacs. We enjoyed some delicious food, shared our favourite moments of the day, and recharged before heading home. The day was a perfect mix of hands-on learning, creative expression, and fun. A big thank you to the staff at Ballymorris Pottery and Shannon Aviation Museum for their welcome, and to our fantastic boys and girls for making the day so special!

ASD School Tour
On Tuesday 10th June Ms D’Arcy’s class headed for Briarhill to attend Flying High Fitness. We took part in a sensory-friendly class where we experienced an open gym to use for gentle hammock relaxation, delightful trampoline fun, and more sensory joy. We ended the day with lunch in McHughs and a pitstop at the shop for goodies. It was a super day.
This term, our Student Council has truly gone above and beyond in making school life fun, inclusive, and successful for everyone. One of their standout achievements was organising Playwork sessions for all classes. These sessions brought students together to enjoy classic games like Connect 4, limbo, dominoes, and bean bag toss — creating wonderful opportunities for friendship and fun.
In addition to spreading joy on the playground, the Student Council also led a highly successful collection of cans and bottles for the Deposit Return Scheme, raising nearly €80 for the school. A big thank you to everyone who contributed, and to Ernestine in Centra for the ice creams afterwards! This fantastic effort will go towards supporting school projects and activities that benefit us all.
A huge thank you to our Student Council members for their dedication, creativity, and commitment to representing their classmates this year. Your hard work has made a real difference — well done!
